With four films – Captain America: Civil War, 1920 London, Traffic and One Night Stand – taking the screens together, it looks like Hollywood’s latest offering managed to best its Bollywood competition yet again.
Getting rave reviews all around, Captain America: Civil War opened strong with Rs 8.53 crore in the kitty on Friday. The film saw little growth in numbers over the weekend. It clocked healthy figures of Rs 8.79 crore on Saturday and Rs 9.81 crore on Sunday. The first weekend total for Captain America: Civil War stands at Rs 27.13 crore. And with little to competition, the film can enjoy a decent monopoly through the week.
Of the new releases in Bollywood, only 1920 London managed to make a dent in the box-office earnings of the weekend. With nothing more than 15 per cent occupancies in the early shows on Friday, the film managed to make Rs 2.50 crore by the end of the day, but failed to grow on Saturday, earning Rs 2.25 crore. The film earned Rs 2.75 crore on Sunday, taking the first weekend total to Rs 7.50 crore. But with no favourable reviews and a relatively poor performance in the metropolitan cities, the film is not likely to notch a high total in the week to come.
Despite good reviews, Manoj Bajpayee starrer Traffic failed to make an impact at the box-office. Earning meagre figures of Rs 25 lakhs on Friday, Rs 80 lakhs on Saturday and Rs 95 lakhs on Sunday, the film’s first weekend total stands at Rs 2 crore.
Sunny Leone starrer One Night Stand suffered a similar fate as Traffic, earning Rs 75 lakhs on Friday, Rs 70 lakhs on Saturday and Rs 80 lakhs on Sunday, taking the first weekend total up to Rs 2.25 crore.
On the other hand, Baaghi managed to notch a decent second weekend total despite many a new release. Having crossed the 50 crore mark in the first week itself, the film’s second week run started on a good note with Rs 2.31 crore in earnings on Friday. Collections grew marginally over the weekend, with Rs 2.43 crore added on Saturday and Rs 3.17 crore on Sunday. With a second weekend total of Rs 7.91 crore, the total domestic collections for Baaghi stand at Rs 67.63 crore.
