It takes a whole lot of effort to get to meet Rihanna. For one concert-goer, it specifically took a light-up mask and a spot-on rendition of a gown to get her invited backstage—but it was totally worth it.

Superfan Emily Graily rocked a version of Rihanna's Giambattista Valli 2015 Grammys dressto a concert Saturday night in Hartford, Connecticut. She also wore a light-up mask of Rhenna, the stick-figure version of Rihanna that the singer occasionally posts on her Instagram (and is currently Rihanna's Instagram profile picture, even).

پاک فوج کے ترجمان لیفٹیننٹ جنرل عاصم باجوہ نے سماجی رابطے کی ویب سائٹ ٹوئٹر پر جاری اپنے بیان میں کہا ہے کہ آرمی چیف کا ملک ریاض سے کوئی تعلق نہیں ہے اور وہ اس حوالے سے لگائے جانے والے بے بنیاد الزامات کو مسترد کرتے ہیں۔

یاد رہے کہ رائٹرز نے گزشتہ روز ملک ریاض کا ایک انٹرویو جاری کیا تھا جس میں ملک ریاض کے حوالے سے کہا گیا تھا کہ ان کے آرمی چیف کے ساتھ قریبی تعلقات ہیں۔

تاہم اس خبر کے ایک روز بعد یعنی بروز بدھ 30 مارچ کو رائٹرز نے ایک ایڈوائزی کے ذریعے اس خبر کو واپس لے لیا اور اس بات کا اعتراف کیا کہ آرمی چیف اور ملک ریاض کے قریبی تعلقات کی بات درست نہیں ہے۔

فوج کے ترجمان نے اپنی ٹوئٹ میں اس بات کا بھی ذکر کیا ہے کہ رائٹرز بھی اپنی اس خبر کو غلطی کی بنیاد پر واپس لے چکا ہے

نئی دہلی: ہندوستان پٹھان کوٹ حملے کی تحقیقات کرنے والی پاکستان کی جوائنٹ انویسٹی گیشن ٹیم (جے آئی ٹی) کو کالعدم جیش محمد کے سربراہ اور حملے کے مرکزی ملزم مولانا مسعود اظہر کے خلاف کوئی بھی ثبوت دینے میں ناکام رہا۔

ہندوستانی اخبار ’دی ہندو‘ نے اپنی رپورٹ میں کہا کہ پاکستانی تحقیقاتی ٹیم نے اس بات کی تصدیق کی ہے کہ ہندوستانی حکام، مولانا مسعود اظہر کے خلاف اب تک کوئی ٹھوس ثبوت پیش نہیں کرسکے۔

اخبار نے نام لیے بغیر ایک سینئر سیکیورٹی اسٹیبلشمنٹ عہدیدار کا حوالہ دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ پاکستانی ٹیم اب تک اس بات کی تصدیق کررہی ہے کہ آیا مولانا مسعود اظہر کا ایئربیس حملے کے واقعے میں کوئی کردار تھا یا نہیں۔

عہدیدار کے مطابق پاکستانی تحقیقاتی ٹیم نے بتایا کہ حملے کے حوالے سے چند افراد کو حراست میں لیا گیا ہے، لیکن حملے میں مسعود اظہر کے ملوث ہونے کے حوالے سے اب تک کوئی ٹھوس ثبوت نہیں۔

انہوں نے بتایا کہ پاکستانی تحقیقاتی ٹیم نے ہندوستان سے کئی دستاویزات اور شواہد طلب کیے، انہوں نے گورداس پور کے سابق سپرنٹنڈنٹ پولیس (ایس پی) سلوندر سنگھ، اُن کے باورچی مدَن گوپال اور دوست راجیش ورما کے فون ریکارڈز کی تفصیلات طلب کیں، جبکہ دہشت گردوں کی پوسٹ مارٹم رپورٹ اور دیگر شواہد بھی طلب کیے گئے۔

سلوندر سنگھ، مدَن گوپال، راجیش ورما اور ایئربیس پر حملے کرنے والے چاروں دہشت گردوں کا پوسٹ مارٹم کرنے والے ڈاکٹرز آج پاکستان کی تحقیقاتی ٹیم کے روبرو پیش ہوں گے۔

ہندوستان کی نیشنل انویسٹی گیشن ایجنسی (این آئی اے) نے 34 صفحات پر مشتمل ایک فہرست بھی پاکستانی ٹیم کے حوالے کی ہے، جس میں مسعود اظہر کے خلاف فول پروف کیس بنانے کے لیے پاکستان سے شواہد مانگے گئے ہیں۔

ہندوستانی اخبار ’انڈین ایکسپریس‘ کا رپورٹ میں کہنا تھا کہ ہندوستانی تفتیش کاروں نے پاکستانی ٹیم سے مولانا مسعود اظہر کی آواز کے نمونے بھی طلب کیے۔

این آئی اے کے سربراہ شرد کمار کا پاکستانی ٹیم سے ملاقات کے بعد کہنا تھا کہ ہم نے پاکستانی ٹیم سے مسعود اظہر، ان کے بھائی عبد الرؤف اور ہلاک ہونے والے دہشت گرد ناصر کی والدہ خیام بابر کی آوازوں کے نمونے طلب کیے ہیں۔

دی ہندو کی رپورٹ میں کہا گیا کہ ناصر ایئربیس میں حملے کے وقت اپنی والدہ سے فون پر بات کر رہا تھا۔

واضح رہے کہ رواں سال 2 جنوری کو پٹھان کوٹ ایئربیس حملے کے بعد ہندوستان نے الزام لگایا تھا کہ مسعود اظہر اور ان کے بھائی عبد الرؤف براہ راست اس حملے میں ملوث ہیں اور انہوں نے اس کی منصوبہ بندی بہاولپور میں جیش محمد کے ہیڈ کوارٹرز میں کی۔

دوسری جانب ہندوستان کی اپوزیشن جماعتوں نے پاکستانی تحقیقاتی ٹیم کو دورے کی دعوت پر وزیر اعظم نریندر مودی کو شدید تنقید کا نشانہ بنایا۔

تاہم وزیر داخلہ راج ناتھ سنگھ نے آسام میں ایک انتخابی ریلی سے خطاب کے دوران حکومتی موقف کا دفاع کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ پاکستان پٹھان کوٹ حملے کی تحقیقات کر رہا ہے اور اُس کی ایف آئی آر درج کی گئی ہے۔

لاہور: صوبہ پنجاب میں سیکیورٹی فورسز نے دہشت گردوں کے خلاف جاری آپریشن کا دائرہ وسیع کردیا۔

پنجاب میں سیکیورٹی ایجنسیز نے پولیس کی مدد سے آپریشن کا دائرہ کار وسیع کرتے ہوئے اسے اہم اضلاع سے چھوٹے قصبوں تک پھیلادیا اور مختلف علاقوں میں کارروائی کرکے 200 سے زائد مشتبہ افراد کو تحقیقات کے لیے حراست میں لے لیا۔

پنجاب پولیس کے ترجمان کا کہنا تھا کہ ان میں سے 61 مشتبہ افراد کو فیصل آباد، 39 کو لاہور، 33 کو گجرانوالہ، 37 کو سرگودھا، 24 کو بہاولپور، 4 کو ملتان اور 21 کو ڈیرہ غازی خان سے گرفتار کیا گیا۔

ذرائع کے مطابق پنجاب بھر میں آرمی، رینجرز اور دیگر سیکیورٹی ایجنسیوں نے انٹیلی جنس کی بنیاد پر اب تک 58 مشترکہ آپریشن کیے ہیں، جبکہ دو روز کے دوران پنجاب پولیس نے بھی 104 مقامات پر آپریشنز کیے۔

ان کارروائیوں میں اب تک ساڑھے 7 ہزار سے زائد افراد کو حراست میں لیا گیا۔

لاہور میں 5 اہم دہشت گرد ہلاک

دوسری جانب کرائم انویسٹی گیشن ایجنسی (سی آئی اے) نے لاہور میں مقابلے میں 5 اہم دہشت گردوں کو مارنے کا دعویٰ کیا ہے۔

سی سی پی او لاہور کیپٹین ریٹائرڈ امین وائنز نے ڈان کو بتایا کہ پانچوں دہشت گردوں کا تعلق کالعدم دہشت گرد تنظیم القاعدہ کے افضال گروپ سے تھا اور وہ پاکستان ملٹری اکیڈمی کاکول پر میزائل حملے، پشاور میں آرمی آفیسرز پر حملے، گڑھی شاہو میں احمدیوں پر حملے اور ماڈل ٹاؤن لاہور میں خودکش حملے سمیت دہشت گردی کی کئی کارروائیوں میں ملوث تھے۔

امین وائنز کا کہنا تھا کہ ان دہشت گردوں نے سینئر آرمی آفیسر جنرل طارق مجید کو رشتہ دار کو ایک کروڑ تاوان، امریکی شہری کو 30 کروڑ تاوان اور ملتان میں 2 غیر ملکیوں کو اغوا کیا۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ خیبر پختونخوا حکومت کی جانب سے ان دہشت گردوں میں سے قاری ثاقب اور جنید ظہور کی 15 لاکھ روپے سر کی قیمت بھی مقرر تھی، جبکہ دیگر دہشت گردوں کی شناخت خان واحد، ناصر اقبال اور ندیم اقبال کے ناموں سے ہوئی۔

ان کا کہنا تھا کہ سی آئی اے نے دہشت گردوں کی موجودگی کی خفیہ اطلاع پر ایل ڈی اے ایونیو اسکیم میں ان کے ٹھکانوں پر کارروائی کی۔

دہشت گردوں کےٹھکانے سے دستی بم، کلاشنکوف اور ڈیٹونیٹرز بھی برآمد کیے گئے۔

PARIS: Former fashion mogul Pierre Berge lashed out on Wednesday at designers creating Islamic clothing and headscarves, accusing them of taking part in the "enslavement of women".

The French businessman, partner of the late fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent, took aim at the wave of big fashion chains that have followed the Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana in catering specifically to the Muslim market.

"I am scandalised," he told Europe 1 French radio.

"Creators should have nothing to do with Islamic fashion. Designers are there to make women more beautiful, to give them their freedom, not to collaborate with this dictatorship which imposes this abominable thing by which we hide women and make them live a hidden life."

"Renounce the money and have some principles," he declared, lashing the new fashion for "modest" Muslim-friendly lines.

His comments came as the French families minister, Laurence Rossignol, sparked outrage on social media as she compared women who followed this trend with "negroes who supported slavery".

Her office later told AFP she had not intended to cause offence but was referring to an abolitionist tract by the French philosopher Montesquieu, "De l'esclavage des nègres" ("On the Enslavement of Negroes").

Earlier this year Dolce & Gabbana became the first major western brand to openly aim at capturing a corner of the Islamic fashion market ─ estimated to be worth $260 billion ─ with its Abaya range.

It included 14 abayas or ankle-length dresses, which it matched with embroidered headscarves and hijabs.

'Burqinis'

The Swedish giant H&M followed their lead, using a veiled Muslim women in its advertising campaign, with the Japanese brand Uniqlo earlier this month announcing it would begin selling hijabs in its London stores.

The British brand Marks & Spencer has also put its toe in the water, marketing full-body "burqini" swimming costumes in its online store.

Last year Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, Oscar de la Renta and Mango all launched varyingly "modest" collections to coincide with the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, picking up on the success of a small DKNY line the previous year.

But Berge, 85, who ran the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house for four decades, decried their "opportunism".

"These creators who are taking part in the enslavement of women should ask themselves some questions,” he added.

"In one way they are complicit, and all this to make make money. Principles should come before money," Berge argued.

ISLAMABAD: A special court of custom, excise and taxation on Wednesday refused to register a money laundering case against model Ayyan Ali.

Giving decision on an application filed by customs officials, the court said the plea was filed on ‘unreasonable’ grounds.

Special judge of custom court Rana Aftab after hearing the arguments had reserved the verdict for some time and then rejected the petition.

Ayyan is already facing trial before the said court in currency smuggling case.

Ayyan Ali was arrested by the Airport Security Force in March last year at Benazir International Airport along with $506,800 she was allegedly trying to smuggle to United Arab Emirates (UAE).

I think females are stronger emotionally than men, they are definitely superior to us. Also, as long I am doing pretty well in my career, I will be happy if my partner earns more than me," said Arjun while talking to City Times over the telephone from Mumbai. 

Kareena Kareena
Kareena has acting in her DNA as she comes from the Kapoor family famously referred to as The First Family of Hindi Cinema. She was last seen with Salman Khan in the National Award winning film Bajrangi Bhaijaan. "I think I am very excited for Ki &Ka and I think its first of its kind, where you have a stay at home husband and working ambitious wife. It's going to be fun," said Kareena while talking to City Times at the TOIFA red carpet. 
Arjun told us that he is one of the biggest Kareena Kapoor fans and saw Kareena's first film Refugee in a movie theater 16 years back. "Refugee and Jab We Met are my favourite Kareena films. Apart from her, I am great friends with her sister Karishma as well," said Arjun.

HE VS SHE OF BOLLYWOOD
Bollywood continues to be a male-dominated industry that creates male-centric roles. But for the last 2-3 year, the landscape is changing and women-centric roles are being written. Actresses are talking about pay gaps. Right now talented and National Film Award winning actresses like Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Vidya Balan do not have any leading heroes who are willing to work with them because these females refuse to be a mere prop in their films. In fact, we should also make it clear that Hollywood is accused of the same sexism.

He: The audience is ready is see an older actor in the main role. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, who are in their fifties are still playing college students and romancing actresses half their age.
She: Actresses have a shelf life. After 34-35, things start looking down for them. Actors like Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Manisha Koirala who started their career with the three Khans are nowhere part of the current scenario of the industry. 

He: Actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar are still doing formula films and why not, because most of these film get money in the industry. Ultimately it is a Hero who pulls in the audience to the theatre. Also, when a film flops, it is generally the hero who gets blamed. 
She: Hindi films in the last few years have offered female actors different character sketches to widen their horizon. Actresses gave in their best and their efforts clicked at the box-office. With films like NH 10, Queen, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Piku, Kahaani, The Dirty Pictures, women are finally bringing in the moolah and showing what they are capable of. 

He: Hero gets a big budget film and more people are willing to invest in those films.
She:  Heroines do not get great roles generally because of lazy and bad writing but lately there some of them have managed to make a success of low-budget films revolving around women (NH10, Piku, Kahaani, Masaan). 

HE: Anushka Sharma recently revealed in an interview that a male actor gets bigger rooms and better cars during outdoor schedule. 
She: We think this is largely due to the patriarchal way in which Indian society thinks. But India is changing and so is the mindset of the film industry. So one can look up in this regard. 

Ki & Ka not a documentary on women empowerment: Kareena

Kareena Kapoor Khan may be playing an independent career-oriented woman in her upcoming film Ki & Ka, but the actress says the movie is not about women empowerment.  The 35-year-old actress, who was in the capital along with co-star Arjun Kapoor to promote the R Balki-directed movie, said the film is not trying to bring any change in the society.  "Films are a medium of entertainment first. This movie is not a documentary on women empowerment or gender equality or is aimed to bring about a change in the society.  "People can see the film and enjoy it and if after watching it they take back so message thats an add on. But this movie is no where an revolution," Kareena said.

 The movie stars Arjun, 30, as Kabir, who decides to be a homemaker while, his wife pursues high-climbing corporate job.  The makers initially focused on the unusual storyline of the movie but Arjun says it is more about freedom of choice than gender equality.  "The film is not dedicated to women empowerment. It is about the society which should treat men and women equally. Everyone should be free to make choices. We are not the torch bearers of women empowerment. I feel women are very empowered and we need to respect that," Arjun said.  Balki, whose last outing was Shamitabh, also agreed with the lead pair saying that he never wrote any of his stories with an intention to give a social message.

ہندوستانی وزارت خارجہ کے بیان کے مطابق پاکستانی حکام نے درخواست کے باوجود ہندوستانی قونصلر حکام کو کلبھوشن یادو سے ملاقات کی اجازت نہیں دی، جو عالمی قوانین کی خلاف ورزی ہے۔

بیان میں کہا گیا کہ ہم معاملے کی مزید تحقیقات کر رہے ہیں، لیکن سابق نیوی افسر کی پاکستان میں موجودگی کئی سوالات کو جنم دے رہی ہے جس میں اُس کا ایران سے اغوا کیا جانا بھی شامل ہے، تاہم تمام صورتحال اُس وقت واضح ہوگی جب کلبھوشن یادو تک قونصلر رسائی دی جائے اور ہم حکومت پاکستان سے پر زور مطالبہ کرتے ہیں کہ وہ اس حوالے سے ہماری درخواست کا فوری جواب دے۔

GUJRAT: One of the main leaders of protesters at Islamabad’s D-Chowk has been on the Fourth Schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act for over a year, yet he made his way to the capital unhindered.

The government’s alleged leniency towards Pir Muhammad Afzal Qadri, the chief of Aalmi Tanzeem Ahle Sunnat, over the years has often put the authorities in a tough situation. Even when he was en route to participate in the chehlum of assassin Mumtaz Qadri local law enforcement authorities did not stop him from marching on Islamabad along with his outfit’s activists.

Sources in the district government and police said there were no particular directions issued by the provincial government regarding Qadri and his group’s plans to participate in the chehlum in Rawalpindi. This was why local authorities did not stop him, they added.

They further said around two months ago authorities had besieged Qadri’s residence and seminary in Mararrian village and stopped him from marching on Lahore to allegedly press the government against executing Mumtaz Qadri.

Talking to Dawn, a senior police official claimed at the time of besieging the seminary and house, police were about to arrest Qadri but provincial authorities ordered them against it at the eleventh hour citing the cleric’s poor health.

Meanwhile, some Afzal Qadri’s followers and supporters blocked GT Road at Lalamusa on Tuesday evening to press the government to enter into a dialogue with protest leaders in Islamabad’s D Chowk.

Gujrat DCO and DPO reached the site to persuade the protesters to lift the blockade.

ARRESTS: Around a dozen hardcore activists of different sectarian outfits, mainly belonging to Brelvi school of thought, have been detained by the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) during targeted operations in various parts of the district. Two of the arrested are already among the list of fourth schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Official sources told Dawn that eight of the suspects were arrested from areas of Kakrali and Gulliana police precincts of Kharian tehsil. These police limits are known for having presence of a good number of sectarian activists.

Gujranwala Regional Police Officer Muhammad Tahir had also paid a visit to the Kakrali and Daulat Nagar police stations on Monday.

Gujrat DPO Rae Zameerul Haq confirmed the arrest of only three suspects, including two of the fourth schedulers, Safdar Shakir and Naveed Tahir, and said that they were being sent to jail under section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for at least two months as per the government orders.

Asked whether the other fourth schedulers in the district were being chased for arrest, he said that the government had passed the direction in this regard which would be implemented in letter and spirit as hardcore sectarian figures were already being monitored by the LEAs.

KARACHI: After the Pakistani cricket team’s disappointing dismissal from the World T20 in India, skipper Shahid Afridi took to Facebook to ask forgiveness from cricketing fans all over the country for what he termed his failure to meet the nation’s expectations.

“I am here to answer to you,” Afridi tells the nation in a video posted to Facebook, “And today I seek forgiveness from you because the hopes you had from me and my team, I could not live up to them.”

“When I wear this uniform, when I walk onto the pitch, I carry with me the sentiments of my countrymen. This is not a team of just 11 players, it is made up of every Pakistani,” he says.

Afridi’s apology comes just a day after the Pakistani team’s head coach, Waqar Younis, also offered an apology to the nation during a ‘fact-finding’ enquiry conducted to probe the team's performance during the series.

“I’ve been very hurt by the situation [that has surrounded Pakistan cricket] and my comments in recent press conferences show it. I apologise to the nation and if my leaving makes things better, then I will do it without delay,” he said.

“We don’t need stars, we need heroes,” Younis said, elaborating that there was a need to ‘dig deep’ and find such heroes for the Pakistani team.

Sharjeel Khan was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the WT20 series with 112 runs in 4 matches while Shehzad, who was recalled to the team at the last minute, scored up 108 runs in as many WT20 outings.

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s fact-finding committee convened in Lahore on Tuesday for a three-day period but it was learnt that Waqar Younis submitted a ‘damning’ report on the team's World T20 performance on Monday.

The committee, which includes Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq and senior batsman Younis Khan, has been given the mandate by the board to meet and talk to the captain, coach, manager and senior players of the national team.

This year, the fashion industry has been in quite a state of flux. However, some designers held their own and strutted their stuff with their usual panache

The mad fashion tours are finally over; for the next six months at least. Twice a year, fashion editors, buyers and models spend over a month living out of a suitcase to view the "shows" for the next season. The fall/winter shows start in New York in February, then it's London, then Milan, and by the first few days of March, it's wrapping up in Paris. It is a practice that is decades old, but one that is now being questioned.

The idea of viewings a season ahead so merchandisers can chart out their buys, and editors can plan their issues - which, in turn, help brands understand which pieces in the collection will be their 'hot-sellers', and so can organise their production - seems rather outdated, especially with, you guessed it, social media. It used to be that only fashion's privileged would get to see the shows, but it's now open to practically everyone. Add to that, consumers don't want to wait six months, they want to "see now, buy now". They are also looking for "what's hot now", so two collections a year do not satisfy these "insta" consumers. To address this, fashion houses now also show cruise and pre-fall collections. The consequent pressure on creative directors has meant that they no longer feel creative, as they churn out collection after collection constantly. This pressure is cited as a major reason as to why, at the end of last year, three creative directors stepped down from their positions at major fashion houses - Alexander Wang at Balenciaga, Raf Simons at Dior and Alber Elbaz at Lanvin. 

Vanessa Freidman of The New York Times referred to the recent autumn/winter shows as the "Ghost Season", amidst rumours that it could be Hedi Slimane's last show for Saint Laurent, and that Phoebe Philo was ready to exit Celine. There is no question that the industry is in flux and it may take a few seasons before there is a new fashion consensus, but as they say "the show must go on". And while these issues have taken focus away from the clothes, at the end of the day, it is the clothes that are the heroes (or heroines) of fashion shows. And there were collections that really stood out this year and made you forget about the unstable system of the industry. Here is a look at the top shows of each week:

Alexander McQueen

It has been 14 years since there has been an Alexander McQueen show in the capital. Of course, then, it was a very different story. McQueen himself is no more, the brand is now available in over 50 countries around the world and it is an important part of the François Pinault-owned Kering group. But, of course, the Brits will always think of McQueen as their own brand, and its creative director, Sarah Burton, is as British as it gets. So, naturally, London celebrated the return of McQueen to their fashion week. (The reason for the city shift was Burton's pregnancy. Being in its late stage, Burton wanted to stay close to home and not cross the Channel to a showing in Paris, the fashion capital that is this fashion house's usual choice.) Living up to the euphoria around McQueen's return meant Burton had to put on a beautiful show and the heavily pregnant director delivered a collection that was surreal and stylish while being decadent, delicate and divine. Her theme was nocturnal, it was about a very stylish sleepwalk down the ramp. Models wore exquisitely embroidered quilted coats, precious pink ruffle cocktail dresses and sensuous sheer evening gowns. It had all the fantasy we expected from McQueen, yet full of new subtle femininity we had not seen from him before. It is no wonder that Cate Blanchett chose the brand for the British Academy Film Awards red carpet - these are the dresses made to make a statement.

Gucci

There was a time when it was Paris that was fashion's darling - it was the show that mattered the most, whether it was by power brand Louis Vuitton, Dior's theatrical extravaganzas or Lanvin's easy, elegant take on fashion. But now with Dior and Lanvin being without a creative director, and Louis Vuitton not making a mark in the last few seasons, Milan has become fashion's firm favourite. And the city has Gucci's Alessandro Michele to thank. Michele has made us want to own everything Gucci, ever since he took over the creative helm last year. His Gucci girl is romantic, poetic and unashamedly eccentric. His more whimsical style has made every high street brand re-examine its approach to fashion. It seems Michele can do no wrong. While the fall/winter 2016 collection was more ladylike than his previous work, it was still full of the magical mix-and-match that fashion editors love about Michele. Be it sheer chiffon gowns or floral and Chinoiserie motifs or the GG logo, he added his own unique touch to everything.

Valentino & special mention: Rahul Mishra

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have been at the helm of Valentino for eight years now. And they have taken the brand from strength to strength, rarely receiving any criticism. Fashion loves to pair opposites together as the result is nearly always sensational. So when Chiuri and Piccioli decided to have punk ballet as their inspiration, the result was beyond sensational. These were clothes you wanted to dance the night away in, thanks to their sheer beauty, with just the right touch of edge and mystery. Blacks to nudes, luscious velvets and intricate embellishments, this collection is bound to be a favourite on magazine covers this September.

Indian designer Rahul Mishra definitely deserves a special mention. A newcomer, he has been showing at Paris for less than two years now and, in this short spell, he has proved that Indian fashion can understand the meaning of restraint and purity; it can be modern, yet rooted in tradition, and, most importantly, it can be international, yet never forget its heritage. A firm favourite with Parisian concept store Collette, he is one to watch for and am sure will soon be on the list of top shows of the season.

The Diane von Furstenberg experience

This may seem like a strange call for a city that is also home to The Row, Alexander Wang and Oscar de la Renta, but there is no question that Diane von Fürstenberg is fashion's original "it girl". As president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), she has commissioned the Boston Consulting Group to look into the future of fashion shows and see whether New York Fashion Week should look at changing into an "in season" fashion show. "Something is not right anymore, because of social media people are confused," the designer stated. And whether it's the wrap dress or reality television, Fürstenberg is always on pulse. Her decision to opt for an "experience" instead of a fashion show at her brand's headquarters - with real girls (which, for Fürstenberg, means Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Karlie Kloss) wearing the collection in staged scenarios - was a stroke of genius. Some of the pieces were available for sale immediately after the show. "For the first time, a few silhouettes were made available for immediate purchase, just in time for Oscar parties and glamorous events," she added. It seems this show is a sign that, like it not, the fashion system is changing. But then Fürstenberg has enough experience to know that, in fashion, the only constant is change. We also loved the show for those glittering sequinned long wrap dresses with thigh-high slits. Yes, glamour can never go out of style - and thank you, Diane, for the reminder!

اسلام آباد: بزنس ٹائیکون اور بحریہ ٹاون گروپ کے مالک ملک ریاض حسین کے اعلیٰ عسکری قیادت اور سینیئر سیاستدانوں سے تو بہت اچھے تعلقات ہیں تاہم وہ خود کو الزامات اور بلیک میلنگ سے بچانے کے لیے اب میڈیا انڈسٹری میں بھی قدم جمانے کا ارادہ رکھتے ہیں.

ملک ریاض، ملک کے امیر ترین اور بااثر تاجروں میں شمار ہوتے ہیں، وہ ایک ایسے ارب پتی ہیں، جنھیں کرپشن کے الزامات کا بھی سامنا کرنا پڑا اور انھیں ہاؤسنگ اسکیموں اور خیراتی سرگرمیوں کی وجہ سے بھی جانا جاتا ہے.

لیکن اب 66 سالہ ملک ریاض ایک 'میڈیا امپائر' قائم کرنا چاہتے ہیں، جس کے بارے میں ان کا خیال ہے کہ وہ اسے اپنے تجارتی مقاصد کے فروغ اور اُن لوگوں کو روکنے کے لیے استعمال کریں گے جو ان کا نام بدنام کرنا چاہتے ہیں.

وفاقی دارالحکومت اسلام آباد کے باہر بحریہ ٹاؤن میں اپنی رہائش گاہ پر خبر رساں ادارے رائٹرز کو انٹرویو دیتے ہوئے ملک ریاض کا کہنا تھا، 'میں بہت جلد میڈیا انڈسٹری میں قدم رکھوں گا، میں صرف ایک نہیں بلکہ بہت سارے ٹی وی چینلز کا آغاز کروں گا'.

ملک ریاض کا کہنا تھا، 'میں نے فیصلہ کیا ہے کہ بلیک میلرز کو روکنے کے لیے اس سے بہتر اور کوئی راستہ نہیں کہ آپ میڈیا میں چلیں جائیں'.

اسلام آباد کے باہر ایک پر فضا مقام پر واقع بحریہ ٹاؤن میں ایفل ٹاور اور مجسمہ آزادی بھی تعمیر کیا گیا ہے، یہاں کی سڑکوں پر دھول مٹی ڈھونڈنے سے نہیں ملتی جبکہ جابجا موجود گھاس تھائی لینڈ سے منگوائی گئی ہے. بحریہ ٹاؤن کے پرائیوٹ گارڈز بھی 24 گھنٹے ڈیوٹی پر موجود رہتے ہیں.

کھلا اعتراف!

ملک ریاض کا کہنا تھا کہ وہ پاکستان میں چھٹے بڑے ٹیکس دہندہ ہیں، انھوں نے کھلے عام کہا کہ وہ ٹاپ سیاستدانوں، ججوں اور ملک کی خفیہ ایجنسی انٹرسروسز انٹیلی جنس (آئی ایس آئی) کے اراکین کو بھی رشوت دے چکے ہیں.

تاہم رائٹرز کے مطابق فوج کے شعبہ تعلقات عامہ نے ملک ریاض کے ان الزامات پر کوئی رائے دینے سے انکار کردیا.

ملک ریاض کا کہنا تھا، 'اگر میں اپنی جانب سے ادا کی گئی سب سے بڑی رشوت کی رقم آپ کو بتاؤں، تو آپ کو ہارٹ اٹیک ہوجائے گا'.

یاد رہے کہ 2012 میں ملک ریاض نے اعتراف کیا تھا کہ انھوں نے عدالتی معاملات اپنے حق میں سازگار کروانے کے لیے ملک کے چیف جسٹس کے بیٹے کو رقم ادا کی تھی.

مذکورہ کیس اب بھی جاری، تاہم التواء کا شکار ہے.

دوسری جانب ملک ریاض کو قومی احتساب بیورو (نیب) کی جانب سے بھی کرپشن کے مختلف الزامات میں تفتیش کا سامنا ہے. ان الزامات میں زمین پر غیر قانونی قبضہ اورسرکاری جائیداد کو کوڑیوں کے دام اپنے نام الاٹ کروانے میں سیاستدانوں کی حمایت حاصل کرنا بھی شامل ہے.

تاہم جب نیب سے ملک ریاض کے حوالے سے سوال کیا گیا تو بیورو کا کہنا تھا کہ وہ انفرادی کیسز پر بیان نہیں دے سکتا.

ملک ریاض نے اپنے اوپر لگائے گئے الزامات کی تردید کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ انھیں ٹی وی چینلز کے ایک ایسے پلیٹ فارم کی ضرورت ہے جو ان کی ساکھ کا دفاع کرسکے.

ان کا کہنا تھا، 'میں میڈیا میں نہیں جانا چاہتا، لیکن اس مسئلے سے نمٹنے کا کوئی اور راستہ نہیں ہے'.

انھوں نے امید ظاہر کی کہ پاکستان کے نیوز سیکٹر میں ان کی موجودگی ان کے خیراتی کاموں کو اجاگر کرنے میں بھی مددگار ثابت ہوگی.

واضح رہے کہ ملک ریاض نے اس سے قبل بول ٹی وی چینل کا لائسنس حاصل کیا تھا، جسے انھوں نے 2013 میں سافٹ ویئر کمپنی ایگزیکٹ کو منتقل کردیا، جس کی دستاویزات پیمرا کے پاس موجود ہیں، تاہم ملک ریاض اس بات سے انکار کرتے آئے ہیں کہ وہ کبھی بول کے ساتھ ملوث رہے ہیں.

بول کو اُس وقت بندش کا سامنا کرنا پڑا جب گذشتہ برس ایگزیکٹ کے خلاف مبینہ طور پر جعلی ڈگریاں فروخت کرنے کے الزام کے تحت تحقیقات کا آغاز کیا گیا.

عسکری تعلقات؟

30 سال قبل بحیثیت ٹھیکے دار اپنے کیریئر کا آغاز کرنے والے ملک ریاض نے وہ وقت بھی دیکھا جب انھیں اپنی نومولود بیٹی کو ہسپتال سے گھر لانے کے لیے اپنے چاندی کے برتن فروخت کرنے پڑے.

ان کی زندگی میں نیا موڑ اس وقت آیا جب 1979 میں انھوں نے ایک دوست سے 15 سو روپے ادھار لے کرفوج کے انجینیئرنگ وِنگ میں ایک ٹھیکے کے لیے درخواست دی.

یہ ٹھیکہ پاکستانی فوج کے ساتھ ان کے طویل المدتی تعلقات کی بنیاد ثابت ہوا.

اب ملک ریاض کئی ہزار ایکڑ پر مبنی 5 ترقیاتی منصوبوں میں فوج کے ساتھ شراکت دار ہیں.

تاہم اس حوالے سے بھی خبریں گردش کر رہی ہیں کہ پاکستان کے موجودہ آرمی چیف جنرل راحیل شریف کے دور میں فوج کے ساتھ ان کے تعلقات اتنے موثر نہیں رہے، تاہم فوج نے اس حوالے سے کوئی تبصرہ کرنے سے انکار کردیا.

دوسری جانب ملک ریاض نے بھی ان افواہوں کی تردید کردی.

ان کا کہنا تھا، 'اگر میرے جنرل راحیل شریف کے ساتھ تعلقات نہ ہوتے تو کیا یہ مشترکہ منصوبے بند نہ ہوجاتے؟'

ساتھ ہی ان کا کہنا تھا کہ 'میں فوج کا دوست ہوں، میں ادارے کا دوست ہوں.'

اسلام آباد: وفاقی وزیر داخلہ چوہدری نثار نے کہا ہے کہ اگر ایک گھنٹے میں دارالحکومت اسلام آباد کے ڈی چوک سے دھرنا ختم نہ ہوا تو کل دن کی روشنی میں سب کے سامنے آپریشن کیا جائے گا۔

اسلام آباد میں دھرنے کی صورت حال پر پنجاب ہاؤس میں اعلیٰ سطح کے اجلاس کے بعد صحافیوں سے بات چیت کرتے ہوئے وفاقی وزیر داخلہ چوہدری نثار نے کہا کہ دھرنے کے شرکاء سے حکومت کے مذاکرات کرنے کی خبریں درست نہیں تاہم کراچی سے آئے کچھ اکابرین کو انتظامیہ سے بات کی اجازت دی گئی ہے۔

'وہ اکابرین سب کیلیے قابل احترام ہیں، وہ معاملے کو پُرامن طریقے سے حل کرنا چاہتے ہیں'۔

دھرنے کے شرکاء کو خبردار کرتے ہوئے چوہدری نثار نے کہا کہ کل ڈی چوک کو خالی کروانے کا فیصلہ کرلیا گیا ہے اور وہ چاہتے ہیں کہ اس موقع پر میڈیا بھی موجود رہے، جو کچھ ہوگا میڈیا کے سامنے ہوگا۔

دھرنے کے شرکاء کے خلاف آپریشن میں تاخیر کی وجہ بتاتے ہوئے ان کا کہنا تھا کہ اگر ایک بھی جان ضائع ہوجاتی تو ملک تقسیم ہوجاتا، حکومت کی پوری کوشش ہے کہ سارے معاملات عدم تشدد سے حل ہوجائیں۔

چوہدری نثار ںے کہا کہ میں تحریری طور پر تمام اداروں کو کہہ چکا ہوں کہ دھرنے کے شرکاء کے خلاف جب بھی آپریشن ہو تو کوئی اہلکار اور افسر ہتھیار بند نہیں ہونا چاہیے۔

وفاقی دارالحکومت میں آئندہ اس طرح کے واقعات کی روک تھام کے حوالے سے وفاقی وزیر داخلہ کا کہنا تھا کہ اس بات کو یقینی بنایا جائے گا کہ آئندہ ایسے واقعات رونما نہ ہوں اور وقت آگیا ہے کہ ایٹمی طاقت کا حامل ملک اتنا کمزور نہ ہو کہ کوئی گروہ اسے مفلوج کردے۔

For seven odd years, design house Muse has stayed rooted to its single retail standpoint in Lahore.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that business hasn’t grown. The brand has augmented its market by showing regularly at fashion weeks, organizing trunks shows at multi-labels in Karachi and Islamabad, taking up orders via its e-store as well as featuring frequently on celebrities at red carpet event. It also has a relatively uncluttered, consistently updated Instagram account with its masses of followers.

There’s nothing quite like a standalone retail store, though, to build brand awareness and sales – which is why there’s a Muse store currently under works in Karachi.

Set to open in the vicinity of the hip and happening fashion-savvy E-Street, designer duo Faryal Aftab and Moeed Yousaf thought it was about time that they catered more regularly to their burgeoning Karachi clientele.

"We wanted to be available [in Karachi] in a more comprehensive way, with our entire seasonal line-ups of cottons, silks, formals and more casual apparel," says Faryal Aftab, half of the design duo behind Muse.

“With trunk shows, we could only bring a limited range to Karachi and people used to complain about it,” explains Faryal. “For a long time, we have had clients coming in from Karachi, buying things off the rack or ordering bespoke bridals or couture. Now, we wanted to be available in a more comprehensive way, with our entire seasonal line-ups of cottons, silks, formals and more casual apparel. It took some time – we wanted the ideal location and production to be streamlined before we expanded.”

The new store – as well as Muse’s present outlet in Lahore’s Gulberg Galleria mall – will also stock a range of bags and shoes that are currently under development. “I love shoes and it just made sense to branch out to accessories,” says Faryal. “Bags and shoes are going to now be an ongoing part of our label. Like our clothes, we have steered away from ethnic inspirations with our shoes and bags. We have sourced fine leathers and molded them into clean, delicate lines. The emphasis is on comfort, fine finishing and sophistication, with slight design elements like bows and ribbons added in.”

Muse designs for women who wish to make a statement

It is an aesthetic that one has always associated with Muse. In a market littered with generic traditional designs, the atelier has stayed committed to its anglicized take on luxury-pret. Designing for the individualistic woman rather than the general hoi polloi, Muse is characterised by dashes of bling, three-dimensional florals or even vivacious stripes.

Muse will also be branching out into accessories. Faryal says: "We are getting our shoes and bags created in Italy because we want the craftsmanship to be exemplary.”

Don’t Faryal and Moeed ever wonder if it would make more economic sense to toe retail-friendly pretty lines every now and then, rather than walk slightly more experimental ones?

“We are very passionate about our work and we are just incapable of following market trends,” says Faryal. “That doesn’t mean that we don’t take note of what the customer wants. I have noticed how colorful thread embroideries tend to fly off the racks and although they are not my favorite, I still incorporate them into some designs.”

But a Muse floral, unlike its counterparts, is more likely to be protruding out instead of merely milling amongst filigree. An oversized sweatshirt, as in the recent sportswear-inspired ‘Last Night’ at the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week, will glitter with sequins in checked patterns, more suited for the discotheque rather than on the jogging track.

It is certainly the road less traveled and yet, according to Faryal, it’s made economic sense for them.

“We are sincere to our work and profits, so far, have just tended to follow,” she says. “If we like the best for ourselves, then we also want to provide the best for our customers. On a recent trip to Paris, I searched out the finest fabric that I could buy which was also relatively viable. Similarly, we are getting our shoes and bags created in Italy because we want the craftsmanship to be exemplary.”

Muse will soon branch out into accessories in a big way

And Muse’s decisively affluent clientele is happily willing to pay the usually hefty price tag that comes with its penchant for internationally sourced material and production.

Some of that uber-cool modern vibe is just about to splash into Karachi and it ought to make things interesting. You could love the brand’s statements or hate them but a Muse outfit is always instantly recognizable. That’s something most design houses can’t claim at the moment, as they churn out market-friendly clothes that all look the same.
